CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team hosted Purdue on Saturday in a fall exhibition game, playing 15 total innings vs. the Boilermakers and outscoring them 20-16.

The two teams played 7.5 innings before taking a short break, then played another 7.5 innings. UC pitchers threw 16 frames while Purdue pitchers tossed 14.

Purdue led, 11-9, after the first 7.5 innings but Cincinnati dominated the second 7.5, winning that half 11-5.

Senior Christian Mitchelle and freshman Enzo Infelise homered for the Bearcats and were two of six players to have multi-hit efforts. Infelise was the lone UC hitter to appear in both games, going 5-for-8 at the plate. Redshirt junior Luke Sefcik and freshman Quincy Mazeke both had three hits, with Mazeke logging two doubles. Mitchelle, junior Cal Sefcik, and sophomore Jackson Smith all had two hits apiece.

Redshirt freshman Ryan Tyranski reached base four times, tallying a triple, two walks, and one HBP. Freshman Jackson Reardon and redshirt freshman Gavin Brewer both walked twice as well. Freshman Nolan Jaworowski tied Mitchelle and Smith for the team lead with three RBI.

On the mound, 10 different pitchers saw action for the Bearcats. Junior Nathan Taylor struck out a team-best five in two innings, while freshman Chad Brown tossed two scoreless frames. Sophomore Brendin Oliver, redshirt sophomore Bradley Coulter, and redshirt senior Joel Pineiro all logged scoreless outings as well. Sophomore Brennan Eager was second behind Taylor with three strikeouts.

The play of the day was made by sophomore outfielder Derrick Pitts. In the fourth inning, he tracked down a fly ball and made an unbelievable diving catch for the second out of the inning.

UC will head to Pitt in two weeks for another fall exhibition game. The Bearcats will also host several more open scrimmages throughout the fall, including games on Thursday Oct. 9, Thursday Oct. 23, Tuesday Oct. 28, and Wednesday Oct. 29. These games are also free to attend.
