TicketsCINCINNATI, Ohio – Three members of the University of Cincinnati baseball program were picked to the preseason All-Big 12 squad on Thursday.
Redshirt senior Kerrington Cross, junior Christian Mitchelle, and sophomore Nathan Taylor all earned a spot on the preseason all-conference team. Cincinnati was one of just two Big 12 schools with at least three honorees, the other being preseason favorite Oklahoma State.
Cross was an honorable mention all-conference honoree last season and was one of two Bearcats to start all 57 games. He hit .321 with 11 home runs, 53 RBI, 63 runs scored, 46 walks, and 16 stolen bases and led UC in hits (71) and walks. Cross ended the season ranking in the top ten in the Big 12 in walks, runs, and stolen bases.
Mitchelle received second-team All-Big 12 distinctions last year as a two-way threat. He started 42 games (25 at SS, 11 at DH, six at 2B) and pitched in 22 games out of the bullpen, and earned a spot on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award midseason watch list. Mitchelle hit .319 at the dish with four home runs, 22 RBI, 34 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. Out of the bullpen, he led UC with six saves and totaled 39.1 innings of work.
Taylor was terrific in his first collegiate season and was named honorable mention All-Big 12 and earned a spot on the all-freshman team. He made 16 starts and two relief appearances, posting an 8-2 record with 70 strikeouts in 72.2 innings pitched. His eight victories were tied for second in the Big 12 and tied for ninth-most in a season in school history.
UC is set to begin the 2025 season with a three-game series at Duke on Feb. 14-16. The first home game at UC Baseball Stadium is Tuesday, Feb. 18 vs. Bowling Green.
