CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team visited Pitt on Saturday in a fall exhibition game, playing 14 innings against the Panthers.
Pitt won game one, 14-7, before taking game two, 8-2.
Redshirt sophomore Charlie Niehaus had a fine day at the plate in the first contest, going 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs. He led off the game with a homer, then launched a two-run shot with two outs in the fourth inning. Sophomore’s Jackson Smith (three), Quinton Coats (two), and Derrick Pitts (two) all had multi-hit efforts in the first game as well. Coats homered followed in Niehaus’ footsteps with a leadoff home run in the second inning.
Five pitchers saw time in the first game: freshman Chad Brown, freshman Connor Blue, redshirt senior Adam Brouwer, junior Dominic Mauro, and sophomore Hudson Johnson. Brouwer and Mauro each threw two innings apiece.
Both of Cincinnati’s runs in game two came in the third inning. Redshirt freshman Gavin Brewer drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly, and redshirt junior Luke Sefcik brought home a run on a sac fly as well in the very next at-bat.
Once again, five pitchers saw action for the Bearcats. Senior Logan Knight started the game and logged two scoreless frames. He was followed by senior Dillon Schueler, freshman Alex Gonzalez, sophomore Brendin Oliver, and sophomore Adam Buczkowski.
