CINCINNATI – Led by the Big 12’s top-rated quarterback, Brendan Sorsby, and the league leader in tackles, linebacker Jake Golday, Cincinnati football is back in the Top 25 coming in at No. 24 in both the Associated Press Poll and the AFCA U.S. LBM Coaches’ Poll on Sunday.

The Bearcats improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12 with a 20-11 win over UCF on Saturday at Historic Nippert Stadium – one week after knocking off No. 14/12 Iowa State, 38-30.

UC has won five straight since a narrow 20-17 loss to Nebraska in the season opener.

This marks Cincinnati’s first AP Top 25 appearance since Nov. 20, 2022 when the Bearcats were No. 21 in the Coaches’ Poll and No. 24 in the AP Poll that week.

Cincinnati joins Texas Tech (No. 7 AP / No. 8 Coaches), BYU (No. 15/14) and Utah (No. 23/22) as Big 12 teams in the rankings this week. UC plays at Utah on Nov. 1 and hosts BYU on Nov. 22.

Head Coach Scott Satterfield’s squad has won in a variety of ways this fall, blending explosive offense, clutch defense and standout special teams play to rejoin the national conversation.

Sorsby has accounted for 19 total touchdowns with just one turnover. He leads an offense that ranks second nationally in yards per play (7.82) and fifth in rushing yards per carry (6.23). He has twice earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Three-year captain and starting center Gavin Gerhardt leads an offensive line that has allowed just one sack all season – the fewest in the country – while collecting three Big 12 Offensive Line of the Week awards.

Golday tops the conference with 9.3 tackles per game.

Together with Cincinnati natives and Preseason All-Big 12 honorees, defensive tackle Dontay “The Godfather” Corleone and tight end Joe Royer, Sorsby, Gerhardt and Golday form a leadership core that is driving the Bearcats into the season’s second half on the brink of bowl eligibility.
