CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team travels to Kansas State for a New Year’s Eve matchup on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET in Manhattan, Kan.
THE RUNDOWN
- Cincinnati (5-8, 0-1) suffered a 91-63 loss to Oklahoma State in its Big 12 opener on Dec. 21 at home. The Bearcats were unable to overcome a hot-shooting Oklahoma State team that knocked down 17 three-pointers.
- Senior Mya Perry led the Bearcats with 21 points and eclipsed the 1,000-career-point mark. She knocked down four three-pointers, including the milestone basket late in the fourth quarter. Perry has now scored in double figures in all 13 games this season, the longest season-opening streak by a Bearcat since 2012-13.
- Perry is averaging 18.4 points, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 39.5% from the field. She has led UC in scoring seven times, steals eight times and assists four times.
- Perry ranks sixth in the Big 12 in scoring (18.4), fifth in field goals made (81) and sixth in three-pointers made (34). She has recorded five 20-point games this season and is one of just 14 players nationally with 230+ points and 30+ made three-pointers.
- Freshman Joya Crawford has scored in double figures in each of the last two games, including a season-high 18 points against Oklahoma State. She is averaging 14.5 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds over the stretch.
- Freshman Dee Alexander made her season debut against Oklahoma State after missing the first 12 games recovering from an ankle injury. She finished with six points, three rebounds and two steals in 16 minutes.
- Despite Alexander’s return, the Bearcats were without four players in their Big 12 opener, including starters Caliyah DeVillasee and Kylie Torrence. DeVillasee has missed the last three games, and nine Bearcats have missed at least one game this season due to injury or illness.
- UC ranks sixth in the Big 12 in rebounds per game (40.7) and has outrebounded its opponent in all but two games this season. The Bearcats sit second in the Big 12 and rank 40th nationally in offensive rebounding (15.1).
- Junior Reagan Jackson is averaging 11.8 points per game and leads UC with a 34.5% clip from three. She ranks fourth in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.820).
- Mya Perry and Caliyah DeVillasee rank first and second, respectively, in the conference in minutes per game, each averaging more than 34 per contest.
- Nationally, DeVillasee ranks sixth among freshmen in scoring (16.2), second in assists (5.6) and third in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). She has scored in double figures in all but one game and has recorded two double-doubles. Her four 20-point performances are tied for the most by a Cincinnati freshman since 2002-03.
- DeVillasee has already earned three Big 12 weekly honors this season (Freshman of the Week twice, Starting Five once). She is one of only seven players nationally — and the only freshman — averaging at least 16 points, five assists and four rebounds per game. She ranks sixth in the Big 12 and 24th nationally in assists per game (5.6) and 11th in the league in scoring (16.2).
- Freshman Kylie Torrence leads UC with 18 blocks and ranks second on the team in rebounds (84) and fourth in scoring (8.4 ppg). Her 1.5 blocks per game rank seventh in the Big 12. She recorded the first double-double of her career with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Miami (OH) and has two double-digit rebounding performances this season.
- Cincinnati has made a habit of getting to the line, making 14 free throws a game. The Bearcats have owned the free throw edge in nine games this season and sit sixth in the league in makes per game.
- Cincinnati and Kansas State have met three times, with the Bearcats seeking their first win in the series.
