No. 13 Seed Cincinnati Prepared to Face Off Against No. 12 Seed Utah in Big 12 Tournament

The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team begins postseason play in a first-round contest versus the No. 12 seeded Utah Utes at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas, at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team begins postseason play in a first-round contest versus the No. 12 seeded Utah Utes at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas, at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
 
No. 13 seed Cincinnati (10-12) enters the tournament after splitting its matches last week. UC swept Dayton, 7-0, on April 9 and fell against West Virginia, 4-2, on April 12.  
 
Graduate student Zeynep Erman leads the way for the Bearcats. The Istanbul, Turkey native presents a singles record of 11-5 out of the No. 1 position and is in the midst of a three-match win streak.
 
Sophomore Sakurako Watanabe has also had great success in singles play as she has a mark of 11-5, mainly competing on the No. 5 court (3-0 record on the No. 4 court).
 
UC's doubles team, consisting of senior Callie Flanagan and Erman, has performed well together, boasting a record of 10-4.
 
// LAST WEEKS MATCHES
Dayton Flyers (April 9) –– UC had an impressive all-around performance. Showcasing her dominance on court one, Erman coasted to a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory to secure the Bearcats' second point of the match. The momentum continued as sophomore Gabrielle Guenther defeated her opponent on court two, winning 6-0, 6-2. The stellar performances brought both players to double-digit victory totals this season, with Erman and Guenther both reaching their 10th win.
 
Junior Isabel Pacheco delivered a flawless performance on Court No. 6, as she notched a double bagel victory, 6-0, 6-0. On the other hand, Flanagan secured a 6-1, 6-3 win in the fifth position,

West Virginia (April 12) –– The Cincinnati doubles pair of Gruszczynska and Guenther notched court one with a score of 6-2, marking their fifth conference win of the season. In singles, Erman impressed in the number one position, as she notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Gruszczynska also had a dominant showing on court number two, as she took the match 6-2, 6-2.
 
// SCOUTING THE UTES
Utah comes into the match with a record of 8-14 and a 3-10 record in conference play. The Utes dropped its last match against No. 20 UCF, 4-1, but swept Houston, 4-0, earlier in the week.
 
Emma Kamper leads the Utes in singles. She holds a 10-6 in their No. 1 spot.
 
In doubles competition, the pairing of Sarah Akid and Emma Valletta have a record of 7-5 on court No. 1 and are currently on a three-match win streak.
 
// THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THESE TWO PROGRAMS HAVE MET THIS SEASON
The Bearcats took on the Utes earlier in the year on March 22, where UC came out on the winning side, 4-2, to claim its first Big 12 win of the season.
 
Erman sealed the deal, winning her match in straight sets, 7-5 (5), 6-4.

The Bearcats took control early in doubles. Gruszczynska and Guenther fell behind 2-0 on court one before flipping the script and winning 6-2. Erman and Flanagan locked down court three with a 6-3 win to secure the doubles point. The partnership of Pyrz and Watanabe was tied at 6-6 on court two when play was stopped.

In singles, Cincinnati won on three courts to clinch the match. Gruszczynska rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 straight-sets win, while Watanabe also notched a singles victory, winning 6-3, 6-4.
