CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team travels to Orlando, Fla., to take on UCF at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
THE RUNDOWN
- Cincinnati battled two ranked opponents last week, defeating then-No. 11 Iowa State, 71-63, before falling to No. 17 Texas Tech, 71-60. Against Texas Tech, the Bearcats trailed by as many as 18 in the first half but pulled within four late in the game.
- The victory over Iowa State marked Cincinnati’s first win over a ranked team since Feb. 28, 2011, when the Bearcats defeated No. 20 Marquette. It also stands as the highest-ranked win in program history; the previous top-ranked victory was a 72-69 win over No. 12 Tennessee in 1984.
- Senior Mya Perry led the way against Iowa State with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, while playing all 40 minutes. For the week, she averaged 19.0 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 48.3% from the field.
- Freshman Caliyah DeVillasee averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 44% from the field last week. - Perry has scored in double figures in all 17 games this season, the longest season-opening streak by a Bearcat since Debbie Merrill in 2002-03 and the longest streak of her career. She has recorded six 20-point performances and is one of just nine players nationally with 300+ points and 40+ made three-pointers.
- Freshman Kylie Torrence leads Cincinnati in rebounds (128) and blocks (22), with her 1.4 blocks per game ranking eighth in the Big 12. She is one of just five freshmen nationally with at least 120 points, 120 rebounds and 20 blocks this season.
- Torrence posted a career-high 16 rebounds against Kansas State on Dec. 31, the most by a UC freshman this century and the most by a Big 12 freshman this season.
- DeVillasee has scored in double figures in 12 of her 13 games played this season. Nationally, she ranks fifth among freshmen in scoring (15.8), fourth in assists (5.0) and third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9).
- Perry is averaging 17.9 points, 2.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 39.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range. She ranks fifth in the Big 12 in scoring, field goals made (105) and three-pointers per game (2.6) and is fourth in three-pointers made (44).
- Cincinnati has outrebounded its opponents in 14 games this season, including a +6.8 margin over the two ranked opponents last week. The Bearcats rank second in the Big 12 and 45th nationally in offensive rebounding (14.6) and fourth in the league in rebounds per game (40.8).
- Junior Reagan Jackson returned to double figures versus Texas Tech with 10 points and ranks sixth in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.833).
- Perry and DeVillasee rank first and third, respectively, in the conference in minutes per game, each averaging more than 33 per contest.
- DeVillasee has already earned three Big 12 weekly honors this season (Freshman of the Week twice, Starting Five once). She is one of only nine players nationally — and the only freshman — averaging at least 15 points, five assists and three rebounds per game.
- The Bearcats have owned the advantage at the free throw line in 11 games this season and sit seventh in the Big 12 in free throws made (13.8).
