CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team returns home to host West Virginia at 2 p.m. on Sunday inside Fifth Third Arena.
THE RUNDOWN
- Cincinnati earned its first road win of the season in gritty fashion on Wednesday, pulling out a 63-59 overtime victory at UCF. The win marked UC’s fifth straight over the Knights in the all-time series.
- Cincinnati picked up its first win of the season when trailing with five minutes to play (1-9). The Bearcats erased a six-point deficit in the final five minutes to force overtime.
- Mya Perry delivered a clutch performance against UCF, sending the game to overtime with a buzzer-beating three-pointer. She finished with a team-high 24 points, four triples and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line.
- Perry has recorded seven 20-point games this season and 16 in her career. She is one of just nine players nationally with 300+ points and 45+ made three-pointers this year.
- Freshman Caliyah DeVillasee added 19 points at UCF and went 9-for-11 from the stripe, including a perfect 4-for-4 in overtime. She has scored in double figures in 13 of her 14 games played this season.
- Perry has scored in double figures in all 18 games this season, the longest season-opening streak by a Bearcat since Debbie Merrill in 2002-03 and the longest streak of her career.
- Freshman Kylie Torrence leads Cincinnati in rebounds (137) and blocks (22). Her 1.3 blocks per game rank ninth in the Big 12, and she is one of only five freshmen nationally with at least 130 points, 130 rebounds and 20 blocks this season.
- Torrence ranks 14th among all freshmen in rebounds per game (8.1) and is averaging 10.5 rebounds per game in Big 12 play. Three of her four double-digit rebounding performances have come in conference action, including a career-high 16 against Kansas State.
- Nationally, DeVillasee ranks fifth among freshmen in scoring (16.1 ppg), sixth in assists (4.9 apg) and third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9). She is one of just two freshmen averaging at least 16 points, four assists and three rebounds per game, alongside Oklahoma’s Aaliyah Chavez.
- Perry is averaging 18.2 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 39.9% from the field and 35.8% from three. She ranks fifth in the Big 12 in scoring, third in made three-pointers (48), and fourth in both field goals made (111) and three-pointers per game (2.7).
- In Big 12 play, Perry is shooting 42% from beyond the arc and has made at least three triples in all but one conference game this season.
- Cincinnati has outrebounded its opponents in 15 games this season, including a +6.8 margin over the two ranked opponents last week.
- The Bearcats rank second in the Big 12 and 43rd nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14.6), and fifth in the league in total rebounds per game (40.8).
- Junior Reagan Jackson returned to double figures versus Texas Tech with 10 points and ranks fifth in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.833).
- Perry and DeVillasee rank first and third, respectively, in the Big 12 in minutes per game. Perry ranks 13th nationally, averaging over 35 minutes per contest.
- Cincinnati has held the free throw advantage in 12 games this season and ranks fifth in the Big 12 in free throws made per game (14.5). The Bearcats went a season-high 25-for-32 at the line against UCF, including 7-for-8 in overtime.
- The Bearcats are 7-1 this season when holding opponents to 69 points or fewer.
- Cincinnati will look to snap an eight-game losing streak against West Virginia, dating back to the 2009 season.
