CINCINNATI — Baba Miller, a senior forward on the Cincinnati men’s basketball team, has been named to the Big 12’s Starting Five, the conference office announced Monday. The honor is the third weekly conference award this season for Miller, who earned the distinction Nov. 10 and Dec. 30.
Miller is joined on the Starting Five by Arizona’s Jaden Bradley, UCF’s Themus Fulks, Kansas’ Darryn Peterson and Texas Tech’s JT Toppin.
Miller averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, four assists and two blocks per games last week in wins over Colorado and No. 2 Iowa State. The 25-point, 11-rebound, four-assist and two-block effort against the Buffaloes marked Miller’s third 20-point game of the season and fifth of his career as he recorded his eighth double-double of the season and 14th of his career. He also drew a game-high eight fouls against Colorado. The native of Mallorca, Spain followed that up with eight points, 12 boards, four assists and two blocks in a 79-70 win over No. 2 Iowa State, the Bearcats’ highest-ranked win since defeating No. 2 Syracuse, 71-68, in the 2012 Big East Tournament.
Miller, who is averaging a team-best 13.2 points and 10.8 boards per game, has led the Bearcats in scoring four times this season and rebounds in all but two of the games he's played in. He's paced the Bearcats in assists and blocks in five of the last seven games.
Cincinnati travels to top-ranked Arizona for a 9 p.m. ET game Wednesday. The game will be televised on FS1 and broadcast locally on 700 WLW.
