CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team returns home to host No. 11-ranked Iowa State at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night in Fifth Third Arena.
THE RUNDOWN
- Senior Mya Perry has scored in double figures in all 15 games this season, the longest season-opening streak by a Bearcat since Debbie Merrill in 2002-03. Perry has also tied the longest double-figure scoring streak of her career, previously set last season at FAU.
- Perry has connected on 14 three-pointers over her last four games, shooting 40% from deep and hitting at least three triples in each contest.
- Freshman Kylie Torrence led the Big 12 in rebounding last week, averaging a conference-best 13.5 rebounds per game. She posted a career-high 16 rebounds against Kansas State (Dec. 31) – the most by a UC freshman this century and the most by a Big 12 freshman this season.
- Torrence recorded her second career double-double against Colorado with 10 points and 11 rebounds. It marked her fourth double-digit rebounding effort of the season.
- Freshman Caliyah DeVillasee returned to the Bearcats’ lineup at Colorado and finished with a team-high 17 points. She shot 6-of-14 from the field, connected on a career-best 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and added five assists. She has scored in double figures in 10 games this season.
- Perry is averaging 17.7 points, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 39% from the field. She has led UC in scoring eight times, steals 10 times and assists four times.
- Perry ranks seventh in the Big 12 in scoring (17.7), fifth in field goals made (91) and sixth in three-pointers made (40). She has recorded five 20-point games this season and is one of just 12 players nationally with 260+ points and 40+ made three-pointers.
- Torrence leads Cincinnati in rebounds (111) and blocks (19), with her 1.4 blocks per game ranking seventh in the Big 12. She is one of just eight freshmen nationally with at least 100 points, 100 rebounds and 15 blocks this season.
- Nine Bearcats have missed at least one game this season due to injury or illness. DeVillasee made her return to the court at Colorado after missing four games with a lower body injury.
- The Bearcats have outrebounded their opponent in 12 games this season. They rank second in the Big 12 and 35th nationally in offensive rebounding (15.2) and sit fifth in the league in rebounds per game (41.0).
- Junior Reagan Jackson is averaging 10.7 points per game and ranks seventh in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.814).
- Perry and DeVillasee rank first and third, respectively, in the conference in minutes per game, each averaging more than 33 per contest.
- Nationally, DeVillasee ranks fourth among freshmen in scoring (16.7), second in assists (5.6) and third in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). She has scored in double figures in all but one game and has recorded two double-doubles. Her four 20-point performances are tied for the most by a Cincinnati freshman since 2002-03.
- DeVillasee has already earned three Big 12 weekly honors this season (Freshman of the Week twice, Starting Five once). She is one of only six players nationally — and the only freshman — averaging at least 16 points, five assists and three rebounds per game.
- The Bearcats have owned the advantage at the free throw line in 10 games this season and sit eighth in the Big 12 in free throws made (13.9).
- Cincinnati and Iowa State will meet for the fifth time in program history, with the Cyclones leading the series 4-0. The Bearcats will be looking for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2011, when they defeated No. 20 Marquette.
