CINCINNATI – Eight members of the Cincinnati Football program received CSC Academic All-District accolades on Tuesday.

Safety Tayden Barnes, linebacker Simeon Coleman, offensive lineman Joe Cotton, linebacker Jake Golday, tight end Gavin Grover, safety Jiqaun Sanks, offensive lineman Evan Tengesdahl, and linebacker Montay Weedon all received the award, which recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field.

In addition, Golday, Cotton, and Tengesdahl were selected to advance to the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America team will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Golday, a first team All-Big 12 selection, received his bachelor’s degree in operations management in December. The linebacker posted a 3.75 cumulative GPA in the classroom while collecting 105 tackles, six TFL, 3.5 sacks, and three pass breakups.

Cotton and Tengesdahl anchored one of the best offensive lines in the Big 12 this year, with Tengesdahl earning AP All-America honors for his play. Cotton, an interdisciplinary studies major with a 3.69 GPA, and Tengesdahl, an operations management major with a 3.55 GPA, both helped UC rank among the nation’s leaders in fewest sacks and fewest tackles for loss allowed this season.

To be eligible for Academic All-District, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be starters or major contributors for their respective programs.
