CINCINNATI — Moustapha Thiam, a sophomore center on the Cincinnati men’s basketball team, has been named to the Big 12 Starting Five, the conference office announced Monday. The award is the fourth for a Bearcat this season after Baba Miller has earned the honor three times.

Thiam connected on a career-best 11-of-17 shots from the field for a career-high 28 points in the Bearcats’ 84-68 win at No. 8 Kansas Saturday afternoon. Thiam also tied a team-high eight boards and handed out a pair of assists as the Bearcats dispatched the Jayhawks for the largest margin of victory for an unranked opponent in Lawrence since Iowa State won by 24 in 1973.

For the season, the native of Dakar, Senegal is second on the team with 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game with a team-high 39 blocks.

The Bearcats continue their road swing when they travel to No. 13 Texas Tech for a 7 p.m. ET tip Tuesday in Lubbock.
