NASHVILLE — The Cincinnati lacrosse team fell to Vanderbilt, 22-10, on Friday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.

The Bearcats trailed 4-2 after the first period, but Vanderbilt's offense erupted in the second quarter with an 8-0 run, building a commanding 12-2 halftime lead the Commodores would never relinquish.

Sophomore Paige Selhorn paced Cincinnati with four goals and two assists — her fourth game of the season with at least four scores. Freshman Payton Kozina also stood out, recording her third hat trick of the year. Vanderbilt was fueled by Nancy Halleron, who set a game-high with seven goals. The Commodores outshot the Bearcats 37-18 and controlled the draw circle 22-12.

Vanderbilt jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before Kozina got Cincinnati on the board, finishing off a feed from junior Paige Counts to make it 3-1. Counts then weaved through multiple defenders midway through the period, squeezing a shot through a swarm of Commodores to pull the Bearcats within two, 4-2, heading into the second quarter.

Vanderbilt took over from there. Halleron posted a hat trick as the Commodores rattled off eight unanswered goals to take a decisive 12-2 halftime lead.

Cincinnati opened the third quarter with a Kozina goal, but Halleron answered immediately to push the margin back to ten, 13-3. The Bearcats rallied, with Lexie Wolfe converting off a Selhorn assist before Counts followed to cut the deficit to 13-5. Selhorn then caught fire, burying three straight goals to make it 14-8 — but Vanderbilt closed the quarter with back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 16-8.

The Commodores put the game away early in the fourth, scoring four straight to open the period at 20-8. Kozina completed her hat trick and Selhorn added her fourth goal of the game.
