CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team returns home to host No. 15-ranked Baylor at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday inside Fifth Third Arena.
THE RUNDOWN
- Cincinnati is coming off a 72-70 loss at Houston on Sunday. The Bearcats erased a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter and took the lead with under four seconds remaining, but Houston answered with a game-winning three at the buzzer.
- Point guard Caliyah DeVillasee led the way with a team-high 21 points to go with four rebounds. It marked her fifth 20-point performance of the season — the most by a UC freshman since 2002-03.
- Destiny Thomas tied her season high with 10 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting effort at Houston.
- The Bearcats have outrebounded their opponents in 17 games this season and rank first in the Big 12 and 48th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14.3), along with fourth in the league in total rebounds per game (40.1).
- Freshman Kylie Torrence has scored in double figures in three of her last four outings, including a career-high 20 points at Iowa State. She has led the team in scoring twice, rebounding 13 times and blocks 15 times this season.
- DeVillasee is averaging 15.7 points, 4.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game and ranks seventh in the Big 12 in scoring and 11th in assists this season.
- Senior Mya Perry is averaging 16.7 points, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game and has scored in double figures in 20 games this season, including seven 20-point performances. She has led the team in scoring 11 times, steals 11 times and assists six times this season.
- Perry ranks sixth in the Big 12 in scoring and is one of the league’s top perimeter threats, ranking fifth in made 3-pointers (54), fourth in 3-pointers per game (2.5) and ninth in 3-point percentage while shooting 35% from beyond the arc.
- Torrence ranks seventh in the Big 12 in rebounds (7.7 rpg) and ninth in blocks (1.2 bpg). She is one of just six freshmen nationally with at least 170 points, 160 rebounds and 25 blocks this season.
- In conference play, Torrence is averaging 8.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Three of her four double-digit rebounding efforts have come in Big 12 action, including a career-high 16 rebounds against Kansas State.
- Nationally, DeVillasee ranks sixth among freshmen in scoring (15.7), seventh in assists (4.3) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7). She is one of just three freshmen averaging at least 15 points, four assists and three rebounds per game, joining Oklahoma’s Aaliyah Chavez and USC’s Jazzy Davidson.
- DeVillasee’s 78 assists this season are the most by a Bearcat since Akira Levy recorded 151 in 2021-22.
- In Big 12 play, Perry ranks second in the conference with 2.4 made 3-pointers per game and has hit at least three triples in six league contests.
- Freshman Joya Crawford is averaging 7.3 points while shooting 56% from the floor over her last three games.
- Cincinnati has held the free throw advantage in 13 games this season and ranks fifth in the Big 12 in free throws made per game (14.5). Reagan Jackson ranks seventh in the league in free throw percentage (.827).
- Perry’s season-opening double-figure scoring streak came to an end at 19 games. The run was the longest to start a season by a Bearcat since Debbie Merrill in 2002-03.
- Cincinnati earned its first win over a ranked opponent since 2011 with a victory over then-No. 11 Iowa State on Jan. 7 and is seeking its first season with multiple ranked wins in program history.
- The Bearcats are 8-1 this season when holding opponents to 69 points or fewer.
