He joins fellow defensive back Bryan Cook as Super Bowl champions from UC’s 2021 College Football Playoff team
SANTA CLARA – Cincinnati all-time great and two-time team captain Coby Bryant became the 20th Super Bowl champion in Bearcats history on Sunday, starting at safety for the Seattle Seahawks in a dominant 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots.
Bryant was a four-year starter, First Team All-American and the 2021 Jim Thorpe Award winner during his time at Cincinnati. He joins Kansas City Chiefs safety Bryan Cook as alumni of UC’s 2021 College Football Playoff team to win Super Bowl titles.
Bryant finished with four tackles and a pass breakup in the victory.
In 2025, Bryant made 15 starts for the Seahawks and totaled 66 tackles, four interceptions and four tackles for loss. Since being selected by Seattle in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Bryant has appeared in 58 games with 34 starts, compiling 227 tackles and seven interceptions.
The Cleveland, Ohio, native’s appearance marked the seventh consecutive Super Bowl to feature a Bearcat.
At UC, Bryant was a two-time team captain who helped lead the Bearcats to back-to-back American Athletic Conference championships, the 2020 Peach Bowl and the 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. Along the way, he earned the 2021 Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to the nation’s top defensive back, and First Team All-America honors.
Bryant finished his Cincinnati career with 172 tackles, 45 passes defended and 10 interceptions over 63 games. His 50 career starts are the most ever by a defensive player in program history. The consummate team leader, Bryant helped Cincinnati post a 44-6 record during his four seasons as a starter.
Former Cincinnati offensive lineman Lorenz Metz, another member of the 2021 College Football Playoff team, was also at the Super Bowl. Metz is currently a member of the Patriots’ practice squad and was inactive for the game. He has spent time on the practice squads of the Bears, Buccaneers and Patriots since graduating from Cincinnati in 2022. A native of Germany, Metz made eight starts for UC in 2021 and earned First Team All-AAC honors.
