CINCINNATI – As his team’s midweek contest vs. Evansville was getting underway, Cincinnati baseball’s Quinton Coats was named one of the Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week, per an announcement from the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Coats was named Co-Hitter of the Week with Pitt’s Lorenzo Carrier.
It’s the second player of the week honor in as many days for Coats, who was named the Big 12’s player of the week on Monday.
Coats was unbelievable last week. In five games, all Cincinnati wins, he hit .500 (11-for-22) with seven home runs, and 17 RBI. Coats slugged a ridiculous 1.545 and homered at least once in every game. He ended play on Sunday with 12 home runs this season, which ranks second nationally behind Georgia’s Daniel Jackson, who homered twice on Sunday to bring his season total to 14.
Entering play on Tuesday, Coats is hitting .351 with 12 home runs, 31 RBI, and a .919 slugging percentage. After his phenomenal week, he ranks second nationally in home runs, second in total bases (68), and third in RBI.
