CINCINNATI — Cincinnati lacrosse sophomore Morgan Handzel and freshman Payton Kozina earned Big 12 weekly honors, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Handzel collected her third Draw Specialist of the Week honor, while Kozina was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the first time as they led Cincinnati to victories over Kent State, 13-7, and Eastern Michigan, 16-9.
Handzel was dominant in the draw circle all weekend, totaling 40 draw controls across the two games. On Sunday, she delivered a historic performance, tying the NCAA single-game record with 24 draw controls to help lead Cincinnati to a victory over Eastern Michigan at Scicluna Field. The record-tying effort also shattered her own program record of 16, which she had set just two days earlier in Friday's win over Kent State.
Handzel’s 115 draws on the year already stands as the most in program history — with seven games remaining.
Kozina complemented the weekend with five goals, including a hat trick against Eastern Michigan.
