Bearcat Bits

- The 2025-26 campaign marks the 125th season of competition for Cincinnati men’s basketball, and the Bearcats will commemorate the milestone with a year-long celebration honoring the program’s rich history, iconic players and cultural legacy. Cincinnati men’s basketball, which was named a top-10 program in college basketball history by the Associated Press, boasts 44 All-Americans, 41 conference titles, six Final Four appearances and back-to-back national championships across its history, which dates back to the 1901-02 season.
- Cincinnati will honor seven members of the Bearcats basketball family participating in their last game at Fifth Third Arena Tuesday. Managers Luke Rubin, Luke St. John and Kelin Jeffreys, along Grant Darbyshire, Jalen Celestine, Baba Miller and Day Day Thomas will participate in Senior Night festivities.
- Cincinnati, allowing just 67.5 points per game defensively, ranks 13th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency, per KenPom. Cincinnati also ranks 10th in the country in non-steal turnover percentage (9.5%) and ninth in opponent 2-point distance (7.1).
- The Bearcats rank second in the Big 12 in 3-point attempts per game (26.5), fourth in the conference in scoring defense (67.5) and field goal percentage defense (41.5) and fifth in assists per game (16.4), 3-point percentage defense (32.0), turnover margin (1.4) and turnovers forced per game (13.00).
- Despite missing two games with an injury, senior forward Baba Miller sees himself among the best nationally and in the Big 12. Miller is tied for 30th nationally and second in the Big 12 in double-doubles with 11, while sitting first in the conference and fourth nationally with 7.52 defensive rebounds per contest and 16th in the country and second in the conference with 9.9 total rebounds per game. He ranks 14th in the nation in defensive rebounding percentage at 27.1%.
- Baba Miller reached the 1,000-point mark for his career with a dunk in the closing seconds of the Bearcats’ win over UCF Feb. 8 and Day Day Thomas accomplished the feat with a season-high 26 points in the win over Oklahoma State Feb. 28. Two other Bearcats have a chance of eclipsing the milestone before the year is out: Jizzle James (982) and Jalen Celestine (963) are all within striking distance with two regular-season games remaining.
- The teams have split six previous meetings, including both contests played in Cincinnati. In the last contest Feb. 8 of last season, sophomore guard Jizzle James’ season-high 24 points and Josh Reed’s career-high 12 off the bench, coupled with a smothering 45-24 second half, helped Cincinnati to an 84-66 win over BYU at Fifth Third Arena.
- Under the direction of second-year head coach Kevin Young, BYU is 20-9 on the year and 8-8 in Big 12 play after losses against UCF and at West Virginia last week. The Cougars rank second in the Big 12, scoring 85.0 points per game. Freshman forward AJ Dybantsa leads the nation in points per game at 24.9, to go along with 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest. Sophomore guard ranks second on the team with 18.3 points per game to go along with a team-high 4.8 assists per game. Senior guard Richie Saunders, who was going for 18.0 points and 5.8 boards per game, suffered a season-ending injury in the Cougars’ 90-86 win over Colorado Feb. 14.
