Moustapha Thiam, a sophomore center on the Cincinnati men’s basketball team, has been named to the Big 12 Starting Five for the second-consecutive week, the conference office announced Monday. The award is the fifth for a Bearcat this season, with Baba Miller earning the honor three times.

CINCINNATI — Moustapha Thiam, a sophomore center on the Cincinnati men’s basketball team, has been named to the Big 12 Starting Five for the second-consecutive week, the conference office announced Monday. The award is the fifth for a Bearcat this season, with Baba Miller earning the honor three times.

He’s joined by Arizona’s Brayden Burries, Baylor’s Cameron Carr and Texas Tech’s Christian Anderson and Donovan Atwell.

For the week, Thiam averaged 22.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in a split as the Bearcats dropped an 80-68 contest at No. 16 Texas Tech Tuesday night before bouncing back with a 91-68 win over Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon. After going for 21 points and 10 boards in the matchup in Lubbock, the native of Dakar, Senegal poured in 24 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against the Cowboys for his fifth double-double of the season and third in the last four games.

For the season, Thiam ranks second on the team with 12.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in addition to a team-high 40 blocks.

The Bearcats host BYU on Senior Night at 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fifth Third Arena.
