DAVIS, Calif. — The Cincinnati lacrosse team fell in its Big 12 opener 15-8 against UC Davis on Saturday afternoon at UC Davis Health Stadium.

With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 8-5, while the Aggies improve to 6-5.

After a back-and-forth first half, Cincinnati grabbed its first lead of the contest in the third period at 5-4 on a Paige Selhorn goal. The Aggies responded with a 4-0 run before closing the game on a 5-0 stretch to seal the victory.

Selhorn led the Bearcats with a game-high five goals. Cincinnati outshot UC Davis 24-20, but the Aggies' goalkeeper turned in a strong performance with 16 saves. UC Davis was paced by Jane Fox and Rhea Cosand, who each tallied three goals.

The Aggies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter as Cosand and Holly Smith found the back of the net. After Smith's goal at the 11:05 mark, defense took over and neither squad would score for the remainder of the period.

After the slow opening quarter, the Bearcats came out strong in the second. Devon Cherry got Cincinnati on the board, going one-on-one to beat the goalkeeper. Moments later, Selhorn knotted the game at 2-2 with 12:50 remaining. UC Davis responded with consecutive goals to regain the lead at 4-2, but Selhorn answered with back-to-back strikes to complete the hat trick and even the score at 4-4 heading into halftime.

Cincinnati claimed its first lead of the contest in the opening moments of the third period, with Selhorn pushing the Bearcats ahead 5-4. The Aggies, however, rattled off four straight goals to take an 8-5 advantage with 5:42 remaining. Amani Higgins halted the run, driving past her defender and finishing through contact to make it 8-6. UC Davis closed out the contest on a 7-2 run to secure the win.
