CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team hits the road to take on UC Davis to open Big 12 competition at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday at UC Davis Health Stadium.
The Bearcats enter the contest at 8-4 overall.
// BIG 12 WEEK SEVEN HONORS
Selhorn was named the Big 12 Week Seven Attacker of the Week after posting eight points (3G, 5A) in the win over Youngstown State, marking her second such honor this season.
// QB ONE
Sophomore Paige Selhorn has emerged as one of the nation's premier offensive threats. She leads the country in total points (75) and ranks sixth in assists (36) and eighth in goals (39). Within the Big 12, she sits first in points per game (6.3) and second in assists per game (3.0). In just her second season, Selhorn has already accumulated 140 career points — fifth most in program history. She previously set the program's single-game assist record with seven helpers in a win over Central Michigan on Feb. 20.
// REWRITING NCAA HISTORY & BEARCAT HISTORY
Sophomore Morgan Handzel delivered a historic performance in the draw circle on March 8, tying the NCAA single-game record with 24 draw controls in a win over Eastern Michigan. The effort shattered her own program record of 16, set just two days earlier in a win over Kent State. Her 24-draw performance pushed her season total to 115, breaking the single-season program record with seven games still remaining.
// DOMINATING THE DRAW
Led by Handzel, the Bearcats have established themselves as one of the nation's top draw units. Handzel has totaled 130 draw controls this season — 10.8 per game, ranking sixth nationally — highlighted by that record-tying 24-draw outing. As a team, Cincinnati is averaging 15.8 draw controls per game, ranking 14th nationally and second in the Big 12, while posting a .640 draw percentage that ranks seventh in the country and first in the conference.
// LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati erupted for a season-high 22 goals in a dominant 22-3 win over Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon at Nippert Stadium. With the victory, the Bearcats improve to 8-4, while the Penguins drop to 1-8.
Cincinnati set the tone early, scoring just 15 seconds into the contest. Youngstown State answered minutes later to tie the game at 1-1, but the Bearcats quickly seized control, closing the first quarter on a 10-0 run and extending that stretch to 18 unanswered goals to build a commanding 19-1 lead early in the fourth quarter before cruising to the finish.
Passa, Selhorn and Kozina each recorded hat tricks to lead the offense, with Selhorn adding five assists. Claire Baenziger accounted for all three goals for Youngstown State. As a team, Cincinnati tallied 11 assists and outshot the Penguins 33-14, while holding Youngstown State without an assist.
// SCOUTING UC DAVIS
UC Davis enters Saturday at 5-5, closing its non-conference schedule with a near-comeback loss to Marquette. Senior Annie Cimperman is the engine of the Aggie draw unit, having reached 205 career draw controls — making her just the third player in program history to eclipse 200 — and is now within 50 of the program's all-time record. Freshman Ava Horrocks has been a revelation for UC Davis, earning a Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor and matching her career high with four points in multiple outings. On the defensive end, Hailey Dommers earned the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award twice this season, ranking third in the conference with 14 caused turnovers. Jane Fox leads the offense with 28 goals, while goalkeeper Emily Altshuler has been strong between the pipes, ranking fourth in the Big 12 in saves per game.
// SERIES HISTORY
Cincinnati is 0-2 all-time against UC Davis. In the most recent meeting on April 4, 2025, the Bearcats fell 11-1 at Nippert Stadium.
