CINCINNATI— Kansas' four-run seventh inning, helped by a three-run shot that bounced off the top of the wall, was enough room for an 8-2 win on Saturday afternoon.
Cincinnati, a day after recording its fastest start to 20 wins in program history, fell to 20-9 and 4-4 in the Big 12.
Kansas scored its first run of the series on a solo homer to left field in the second inning. The Bearcats evened the score in the third by virtue of a Conlan Daniel triple to right center (his second of the year) and Jackson Smith's bunt single down the first base line.
Adam Brouwer's start went 3 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs. Adam Buczkowski entered and fanned his first batter, stranding his inherited runner at third, as part of 2 1/3 effective innings. Four others combined for the final three frames.
The rubber game of the series will take place Sunday at 1 p.m.
