CINCINNATI – Cincinnati baseball’s Christian Mitchelle has been named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award watch list, the College Baseball Foundation announced Wednesday.
It’s the third straight year Mitchelle has earned a spot on the watch list.
A senior at UC, Mitchelle has started eight games this year, seven at third base and one in left field. He hit his first home run of the season at Western Kentucky on Wednesday.
Last year, started games at all three outfield spots as well as second and third base, and he also pitched in 10 games. In his career as a Bearcat, Mitchelle has played in 111 games and has made 32 appearances on the mound.
Mitchelle was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection in 2024, his first year at Cincinnati.
ABOUT THE JOHN OLERUD TWO-WAY PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation's top combo pitcher-position player. Recent winners include Caden Grice (Clemson, 2023), Paul Skenes (Air Force, 2022), and Spencer Schwellenbach (Nebraska, 2021).
Olerud, who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, was a standout pitcher and first baseman at Washington State University from 1987 through 1989.
