CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team welcomes UC San Diego this weekend for a four-game series at UC Baseball Stadium.

This weekend’s four-game set will be a rematch of last year’s trip to San Diego when the Tritons won three of four games at their ballpark. The series came at the end of a long road trip and saw UC win game two, 5-2, while UCSD won the rest.
UC Baseball Stadium has been a refuge for Cincinnati under head coach Jordan Bischel, as his teams are 41-15 when playing at home since the start of the 2024 season.
The Bearcats enter this weekend’s series having won six of their last seven, the latest victory being a 5-2 triumph at Western Kentucky on Tuesday. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Cincinnati, but rainy weather pushed the game to Bowling Green, Ky.
The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the seventh and then Cincinnati scored in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to take the lead and win 5-2.
Cincinnati’s bullpen was outstanding, as redshirt senior Joel Pineiro earned the win and junior Carson Marsh notched the save. Pineiro threw 2.2 scoreless frames and allowed just two hits and no walks, keeping his season ERA at a pristine 0.00. Making his sixth appearance of the year, Marsh struck out three and worked UC out of trouble in the seventh and eighth to maintain the lead.
The Bearcats’ pitching staff has been terrific, ranking second in the Big 12 with a 3.49 ERA. Several pitchers who have appeared in multiple games own an ERA under 2.00, led Pineiro’s 0.00 ERA.

The Tritons are 4-6 to start the year, but own a win against No. 1-ranked UCLA. That came in their season-opening series in Los Angeles when they grabbed the lead with a two-run top of the ninth. Last weekend, UCSD dropped two out of three at Louisiana, winning the first game before losing the next two. Junior first baseman Gabe Camacho leads the team with four home runs and hit one against UC last season.
