CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati football team held its first official practice of the spring on Monday, battling for 17 periods at the Sheakley Indoor Practice Facility.

The first of 15 spring practices was a welcome return to the gridiron for head coach Scott Satterfield and his Bearcats, and an introduction for many others with the program.

“It was a great day, it was fun to get out there,” Satterfield said. “There are a lot of new things happening out there. A new defense, several new coaches, 22 transfers, and 14 high school guys. I thought we had great energy. We practiced at a high level, I saw a lot of really good things out there today.”

From a new defensive scheme under defensive coordinator Nate Woody, who joined the program in January, to a long list of newcomers, and even new jersey numbers for many returning players, the foundation is the focus at this point in the calendar for the Bearcats.

“There’s a lot of teaching going on right now,” Satterfield said. “There are a lot of new players, some new scheme. We’re just trying to teach what we want out of the guys. We’re trying to coach to a standard, and the guys know what the standard is. It’s just doing things right.”

The next practice for Cincinnati will be this Wednesday, March 11.  All practices are closed to the public.
