CINCINNATI Luke Sefcik doubled in the go-ahead run, then Jackson Smith and Quinton Coats hit back-to-back homers, in the seventh inning to lift the Bearcats against Wright State, 8-5, on Tuesday night.

Sefcik earlier in the game also notched his first homer in his seventh start of the season. It marked the second time he and his brother, Cal, were penciled in together.

Coats' 427-foot blast to right-center field served as the 20th for the nation's home run leader. He moved into sole possession of fourth place at UC, ahead of Josh Kross (2024), Griffin Merritt (2022) and Kevin Youkilis (2000).

Ryan Tyranski also swiped three bases, matching UC's most since Derrick Pitts in the season opener at Jacksonville State. Freshman Enzo Infelise's four hits were also a career-high.

Freshman Alex Gonzalez pitched a scoreless sixth to earn the win in his collegiate debut. Dillon Schueler got the starting nod, and his three innings were a season-high. Five Bearcats pitched in all, with Chad Brown earning the three-inning save.

Wright State's runs came by way of two, two-run homers by Gus Gregory in the second and third innings until Gregory doubled to deep right-center for the fifth run in the ninth.
