CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women’s basketball head coach Katrina Merriweather has announced the signing of transfer Jade Jones.
Jones, a 5-foot-10 guard, joins the Bearcats from Houston, where she appeared in 30 games with 14 starts as a freshman. She averaged 5.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while leading the Cougars in rebounding eight times and scoring in double figures on eight occasions.
“Jade blew me away with our first conversation,” said Merriweather. “Rarely do you meet a student-athlete who is clear about what they are looking for in the next stop of their journey. Her explosiveness, defensive tenacity, and ability to collapse the defense is a perfect fit for our system. We look forward to adding Jade’s athleticism to our squad and her and her family to The Sisterhood.”
She earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 16.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals over three games. The week was highlighted by her first career double-double — 16 points and 12 rebounds against High Point — along with the game-winning basket in an 18-point performance against UTRGV.
Jones prepped at The King’s Academy in West Palm Beach, Fla., where she averaged 12.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 1.4 assists per game. She also competed on the Nike EYBL circuit with the Miami Suns.
