DAYTON, Ohio — Two runs in the seventh, followed by six in the eighth, led to Wright State rallying past Cincinnati, 12-7, at Nischwitz Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Cincinnati had won six of eight entering the day, including its road series win at No. 21 UCF. It now turns its attention to hosting No. 12 West Virginia this weekend.
Wright State's Gus Gregory, who homered twice and doubled in a 5-RBI game at UC on March 31, had four hits, including the go-ahead two-run double in the seventh. Enzo Infelise's two-run double in the ninth closed the gap.
Cincinnati fell to 16-4 when scoring in the first inning, and the Bearcats led 4-1 before Wright State tied it in the fourth. Jackson Smith led off the game with a double before coming around to score, then drove in two more with a single in the second.
The Bearcats saw two streaks extended: Ryan Tyranski's 11-game hit streak and Infelise reaching safely in 25-straight contests. Christian Mitchelle posted his second-straight multi-hit game, the first two for the third baseman since March 21 and something the Bearcats could use down the stretch.
Chad Brown made his first-career start, pitching the first two innings. His only run allowed was on a double play in the second after a perfect first. Dominic Mauro (two innings) and Dillon Schueler (three frames) followed, with Schueler taking the loss. Six Bearcats pitched on the day.
