The University of Cincinnati women’s golf team opened play at the Chevron Silverado Showdown on Monday with a strong first round at Silverado Country Club & Resort in Napa, Calif.

NAPA, Calif. – The University of Cincinnati women’s golf team opened play at the Chevron Silverado Showdown on Monday with a strong first round at Silverado Country Club & Resort in Napa, Calif.

The Bearcats sit third overall at 1-over par (289), placing themselves firmly in contention and ahead of several nationally ranked programs, including No. 5 Oregon, No. 39 CSU Fullerton, No. 44 California and No. 45 Oregon State after 18 holes.

The Bearcats were led by Mar Garcia Jimenez, who fired a 2-under 70 to tie her season-low round and sit in seventh on the individual leaderboard after day one. 

Clara Willem followed with a career-best 1-under 71, giving the Bearcats a pair of under-par performances to start the tournament. 

Rim Imni added a 1-over 73, while Yu-Wei Chiang (+3, 75) and Ellise Rymer (+4, 76) rounded out the scoring for Cincinnati.

Cincinnati will return to the course Tuesday for the second round of the three-day event.
