TUCSON, Ariz. — University of Cincinnati track and field standout Orry Willems claimed the Big 12 men’s hammer throw championship on Thursday at Drachman Stadium, winning the conference title with a school-record throw of 68.65m.
Willems broke his own school record twice during the competition en route to the championship performance, securing the first Big 12 title of his career.
The victory marked a major step forward from last season, when Williams placed fourth in the hammer throw at the Big 12 Championships with a mark of 64.71m to earn All-Big 12 honors before advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he finished 20th nationally.
