CINCINNATI — Cincinnati junior pitcher Nate Taylor broke the program's single-season record with seven strikeouts, giving him 111 on the year, and Cincinnati mashed back-to-back-to-back homers in the fourth inning to blow out Texas Tech, 13-1, in seven innings on Thursday night.
The game began with the ultimate foreshadowing. Taylor punched out the first batter, UC's 500th of the season, en route to striking out the side. Taylor also now has 21 career wins, tying with Dan Osterbrock (2006-08) for that record. Cincinnati broke its previous record (from 2025) Sunday at Kansas State.
Cincinnati (36-18, 16-12 Big 12), meanwhile, needed only three batters for a 3-0 lead as Quinton Coats launched a no-doubter to right-center. He would finish with two doubles and two homers, breaking the UC single-season total bases record too with 173 and counting.
Jack Natili's three-run homer in the fourth extended the lead to 7-0, and there was still so much more to come.
Coats, Derrick Pitts and Natili went back-to-back-to-back in the fourth, the first-such instance for Cincinnati since 2022 vs. UCF (Ryan Nicholson-Kerrington Cross-JP Sponseller). There would be no fourth attempt, however, as Enzo Infelise was drilled with a fastball on the first pitch.
Following some drama and deliberation, Texas Tech starter Kaysen Raineri and head coach Tim Tadlock would both be ejected. Raineri was ultimately charged with 12 earned runs over his 3 1/3 innings.
Coats now has 27 round-trippers as part of his fourth multi-homer game, which was his first since March 21 against Utah when he and Natili each hit three. The standout catcher is second to Coats with 16 homers.
