TUCSON, Ariz. — University of Cincinnati track and field speedster Kya Epps captured the women’s 100-meter championship Saturday at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, sprinting to a program record time of 11.07 to secure the first Power 4 conference title of her career.
Epps’ winning time marked another milestone in a breakout year for the Cincinnati standout, who advanced to the final after placing fourth in Friday’s preliminary round with a time of 11.35.
The championship performance continues Epps’ steady rise as one of the top sprinters in the Big 12. Last outdoor season, she earned All-Big 12 honors in the 200 meters and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where she finished 23rd nationally in the event with a time of 23.23. During the NCAA East First Round, Epps recorded personal bests in both the 100 meters (11.23) and 200 meters (22.82).
At the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Championships, Epps placed fourth in the 200 meters in 22.98 and finished 11th in the 100 meters in 11.76 before taking another major step forward this season with Saturday’s conference crown.
Epps also carried momentum from a strong indoor campaign into the outdoor season. Earlier this year, she earned All-Big 12 honors in the 200 meters during the indoor season after placing eighth at the conference championships. In 2025, she collected All-Big 12 honors in both the 60 meters and 200 meters while breaking school records in each event at the conference indoor championships.
