SURPRISE, Ariz. — Seven runners left on base and a few errors in the first three innings were too much for the No. 17 Cincinnati baseball team against No. 21 Arizona State, falling 10-2 in the Big 12 Quarterfinals on a late Thursday night.
First pitch was at 8:40 p.m. MT (11:40 p.m. ET). Cincinnati, a consensus No. 2 seed by regional projections, will learn its destination at 12 p.m. ET on Monday.
Cincinnati left the bases loaded in the first and third innings, the former on 34 pitches, while the Sun Devils built a 5-1 lead, despite allowing six walks themselves. The Bearcats' defense also committed four errors in that stretch.
First Team All-Big 12 starter Nate Taylor went three innings, allowing five runs (two earned). He remains tied for the UC career wins record at 21-7.
