CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati men’s basketball team has signed guard Akai Fleming for the 2026-27 season, first-year head coach Jerrod Calhoun announced Thursday. Fleming, who played in 30 games, including 22 starts, as a freshman last season at Georgia Tech, will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
“I love Akai’s ability to score the basketball but I think he’ll be able to impact winning on both sides,” Calhoun said. “He gained a ton of experience as a freshman in a strong conference and that will benefit him once he gets on campus here. We’re happy to have Akai join our group.”
A native of Marietta, Ga., Fleming averaged 10.4 points per game and shot 81.6% from the free throw line. He scored in double-figures 17 times, including nine games of at least 15 points. Fleming, who scored a career-high 20 points against Lafayette, was named to the Emerald Coast Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in the event.
After starting his high school career at Osborne High School in Marietta, Fleming spent his senior season at Overtime Elite, where he averaged 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest. He also was selected in May 2023 for the FIBA U-16 Men’s Americas Championships.
