MANHATTAN, Kan. — There was no better time for Kansas native Quinton Coats to pad his program record with his 25th homer of the year, a three-run shot to put No. 20 Cincinnati ahead in the eighth, as the Bearcats defeated Kansas State, 5-3, on Saturday evening.

The win both marked the 100th for head coach Jordan Bischel at the helm and cemented Cincinnati's winningest three-year stretch in program history, surpassing the 1999-01 and 2006-08 seasons. The eight-game win streak is UC's longest since 10 in 2016.

The series concludes Sunday at 12 p.m. ET, with Cincinnati looking to claim its second-straight sweep and a perfect seven-game road trip.

The Bearcats are now 35-17 and 15-11 in the Big 12. They are 19-6 in May for regular-season games under Bischel and 17-11 on the road for the year.

Kansas State struck first on a solo homer in the third inning, but UC starter Logan Knight retired the next 10 batters. He did get charged for two more runs in the seventh but still posted an efficient 76-pitch outing.

Freshman Chad Brown took over for Knight, and after allowing the two inherited runners to score, improved to 5-0 on the year.

Cincinnati responded from the first K-State run with a Jack Natili RBI single in the fourth. The Bearcats entered the eighth inning with five hits and a 3-1 deficit before rallying with four runs and five hits. Enzo Infelise provided a much-needed insurance run after Coats' opposite-field blast with an RBI single through the left side.
