EUGENE, Ore. —University of Cincinnati junior Juliette Laracuente-Huebner is positioned to compete for a national championship after totaling 3,616 points across four events on the opening day of heptathlon competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Hayward Field.
The Marengo, Ohio native got off to a strong start, posting a blazing 13.46 in the 100m hurdles for a second-place finish and 1,056 points. She followed with a season-best 1.75-meter clearance in the high jump, good for seventh place and 916 more points.
Laracuente-Huebner added 684 points with a 12.34-meter throw in the shot put, finishing 11th, then closed out the day with an eighth-place finish in the 200m dash, crossing in 24.22 for 960 points.
With three events remaining on Saturday — the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters — Laracuente-Huebner enters the final day in fourth place. The long jump, her strongest event, figures to be a key opportunity to move up the leaderboard.
