CINCINNATI – Cincinnati baseball sophomore infielder Quinton Coats has been named District 5 Player of the Year by the National College Baseball Writers’ Association (NCBWA), the organization announced on Friday.

For Coats, the award is another well-deserved accolade after a terrific 2026 campaign. The Olathe, Kan. native turned in one of the best offensive seasons ever by a Bearcat, setting single-season school records in home runs (28) and total bases (183) while tying the single-season RBI record (79). Coats hit .339 and slugged .738 and ended his season ranking among the Top 10 nationally in home runs, total bases, and RBI.

Coats hit three home runs in a game against Utah on March 21, tying the single-game school record.

He was named First Team All-Big 12 last month and earned three Big 12 Player of the Week awards during the season.

Coats, as well as teammates Derrick Pitts and Enzo Infelise, announced their intentions to return to Cincinnati for the 2027 season this week. The Bearcats finished the year 38-22 and reached an NCAA Regional for the second straight year, the first time in school history they have made the postseason in back-to-back seasons.
