The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team fell to Illinois, 2-1, in Champaign, Ill., on Thursday night.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team fell to Illinois, 2-1, in Champaign, Ill., on Thursday night.

The Bearcats move to 1-1 on their season.

Illinois led 4-0 in shots during the first half, but neither team was able to breakthrough entering halftime scoreless. 

After the break, the Bearcats acted fast with sophomore Lexi O’Shea finding the back of the net in the 49-minute mark off an assist from freshman Braelyn Even.

Just four minutes later, Illinois struck back to level the match at 1-1. The Fighting Illini capitalized in the last five minutes of play to take a 2-1 victory.

O’Shea led the team with one goal and three shots, while Brooklynn Schomaker and Tiana Campbell each contributed one shot. 

Ally Gilbert, Karson Yon, Emma Gioffre, Anna Barber and Christa Gibbons played the full 90.

Up next, Cincinnati travels back home to host Bowling Green at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 23 inside Gettler Stadium.
