TicketsNASSAU, Bahamas — The Cincinnati men’s basketball team defeated Calgary, 107-66, Wednesday afternoon at Baha Mar in Nassau. The exhibition matchup was the second of two games the Bearcats played as part of the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League after Cincinnati defeated Victoria Tuesday afternoon.
Myles Colvin led four Bearcats in double figures with 25 points on 7-for-11 from deep. Akai Fleming added 14 points, seven boards and five assists, Tyler Tejada went for 14 points, five boards and five helpers and Adlan Elamin poured in 10 points.
“I thought we played lights-out in the first half after the first couple minutes,” Cincinnati head coach Jerrod Calhoun said. “But we played in spurts. The first half was dynamite for the final 18 minutes or so. These eight weeks were phenomenal and I’m grateful we got to play two games down here. This will really benefit our team moving forward.”
The teams combined on seven triples in the opening four minutes as Cincinnati went on a 9-0 spurt to gain a 15-12 lead on a Colvin triple from the left wing with 16:20 left to play in the opening half. That run got pushed to 17-0 when the Bearcats went up 23-12 on a pair of Fleming free throws with 13:54 left to play.
Cincinnati continued to stay hot from the outside as it doubled up the Dinos at 46-23 on a Tejada transition three with 5:21 to go, kickstarting a 22-0 run late in the half that led to a 65-23 Bearcats’ lead at the break.
After going 0-for-3 from deep Tuesday afternoon against Victoria, Colvin connected on all but one of seven first-half 3-point attempts to lead Cincinnati with 20 points in the opening 20 minutes. Fleming added 10 points and four boards for the Bearcats, who held Calgary scoreless for the final 6:01 of the half and went 13-for-19 (68.4%) from beyond the arc.
Cincinnati cooled off in the second half and Calgary’s Elijah Thomas and Josiah Thomas combined for 32 of the Dinos’ 43 second-half points, but the Bearcats cruised to the 41-point win.
For the game, the Bearcats shot 55.1% (38-for-69) from the field and 55.6% from three (20-for-36), while outrebounding the Dinos by a 43-24 margin. Cincinnati held a 27-0 advantage in fast-break points and a 66-4 edge in points off the bench.
