TicketsINDEPENDENCE, Minn. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team is tied for fourth at 8-over through 36 holes of the Gopher Invitational Sunday at Windsong Farm Club. Oklahoma leads at even-par, followed by Georgia at 2-over, Rutgers at 5-over and the Bearcats and West Virginia tied for fourth at 8-over.
The Bearcats opened with a 5-over-par 289 to tie for second after the opening round before posting a 3-over-par 287 in the afternoon.
Final-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. ET Monday.
After opening with three bogeys and a pair of birdies on his way to a first-round 1-over 72, sophomore Brayden Miller climbed 11 spots with four birdies on his way to a season-low 3-under 68 to move into a tie for fourth. Freshman Eli Wessel and his brother, junior Leo Wessel both sit in a tie for 19th at 3-over. Eli followed up 1-over 72 with a 2-over 73 in the afternoon, while Leo carded three birdies and a trio of bogeys in the first round before four bogeys and a double limited him to a 3-over 74 in the second.
Freshman Aidan Wilson sits in a tie for 27th, carding a 3-over 74 in the morning before answering with a 1-over 72 in the afternoon and senior Timmy Hollenbeck went 76-74 to head into the final round in a tie for 54th at 8-over.
The Bearcats lead the field in par-5 scoring at 7-under and are tied for best in par-4 scoring at 9-over but have struggled on the par-3’s at 14-over. Cincinnati sits second in the field with 31 birdies.
