Cincinnati Climbs Into Second After 36 Holes at Powercat Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Cincinnati women’s golf team opened the Powercat Classic on Monday at Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan. 

The Bearcats fired a 289 (+1) in the second round to climb into second place in the team standings after 36 holes. Cincinnati sits at 589 (+13) overall, trailing host Kansas State heading into the final round.

Freshman Mai Mai Wimonwan led the way for the Bearcats, carding a one-over 73 in the opening round before following with a one-under 71 in the second round. She sits tied for second on the individual leaderboard. 

Angela Gomez also made a move up the leaderboard, opening with a 75 before firing a two-under 70 in the second round. She sits tied for fourth at 145 (+1). 

Eline Chau-Hu carded a pair of 73 and 75 rounds to finish the day in 12th, while Ellise Rymer bounced back with a 73 in the second round to move up 14 spots on the leaderboard (30th). Staci Pla rounded out Cincinnati’s lineup tied for 61st. 

Competing as an individual, Lauren Pleiman put together a strong second round, firing a two-over 74 to finish the day tied for 33rd. 

The Bearcats will return to the course Tuesday for the final 18 holes, with a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start.
