GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team opened its season with a 4-over-par 288 to sit eighth after 18 holes of the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich., Monday. Bearcats’ second-round tee times get underway at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Georgia Tech got off to a blistering start, going 12-under on the day, followed by Michigan State at 5-under, Notre Dame at 3-under, Kansas at 1-under and Alabama at even-par. Northwestern and Texas are in a tie for sixth at 1-over, three shots ahead of the Bearcats.

Results

Senior Timmy Hollenbeck, a transfer from Wright State, bounced back from a pair of early bogeys to card three birdies in his final 11 holes for a 1-under 70 and a tie for 11th after 18 holes. A pair of freshman followed him as Eli Wessel carded two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par 71 and a tie for 20th and Aidan Wilson used four birdies to sit in a tie for 35th at 2-over.

Fifth year Ryan Ford made a team-high six birdies but was hampered by two double-bogeys and a triple-bogey on his way to a 3-over 74 to tie sophomore Brayden Miller for 47th place.

As a team, Cincinnati is tied for third in par 4-scoring at 1-under and tied for fourth with 16 birdies, but five double-bogeys or worse hindered the Bearcats through 18 holes. Individually, Ford is tied for fourth in the 75-competitor field in par-5 scoring at 2-under and birdies with six, while Wessel is tied for fourth with 14 pars.
