CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati baseball team played Kentucky at Prasco Park on Sunday, coming out on top in a 13-4 decision. The Bearcats and Wildcats played 14 innings, taking a short break after the seventh frame.

The biggest inning of the day was the bottom of the 11th for Cincinnati, when it batted around and exploded for nine runs to take a commanding lead. The highlight of the inning was freshman Landyn Dykes’ 433-foot grand slam to center field, which sent the dugout into a frenzy.

Dykes had two hits, as did Luke Sefcik. Dykes was one of three freshmen to have a multi-RBI performance, as Ryan Morel and Dylan Fairchild each had two RBI in the win. Sefcik had two RBI too, including one on a run-scoring double.

Connor Blue started the day on the mound and struck out four in three scoreless frames. Zach Robinson also tossed three innings, while Adam Buczkowski, Beckett Doane, Connor Osier, and Tucker King all turned in scoreless outings.

The Bearcats opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Conlan Daniel stole second base, but the throw from the catcher sailed into center field allowing Daniel to advance to third and Joe DuSell to score from third.

Kentucky and Cincinnati each scored in the sixth inning and UK added runs in the ninth and tenth innings to go out in front. UC’s nine-run 11th inning broke the game wide open, with Dykes’ grand slam serving as the exclamation point. Fairchild’s RBI single and Sefcik’s bases-loaded walk in the 12th inning capped the scoring.

Cincinnati will host Dayton (Saturday, Oct. 10) and Xavier (Saturday, Oct. 17) in fall ball competition at UC Baseball Stadium in the coming weeks.
