CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati baseball team hosted Dayton on Saturday at UC Baseball Stadium, defeating the Flyers by a score of 16-15.
UC and UD played 15 innings. After playing eight frames, the two teams took a brief break before resuming in the ninth. The top of the 15th inning was deemed the final half-inning of the day.
The Bearcats slugged four home runs and drew 15 walks on Saturday, showing power and working counts at the plate. Dylan Fairchild hit two homers, including a grand slam, while Ryan Tyranski and Joe DuSell went back-to-back in the 11th inning to account for the other two long balls.
Fairchild had three hits, all going for extra bases. Enzo Infelise reached base three times and drove in two runs, while Gavin Michaels added two hits and two RBI. Charlie Niehaus drew three walks and Quinton Coats drew two free passes.
On the mound, Chad Brown opened the game and struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings. Cole Adams struck out four across 2.2 shutout innings and Seb Shulsky matched Adams’ strikeout total. Nolan Bernard’s five strikeouts led all Bearcats. Brenden Garula threw the final 1.1 frames, keeping the Flyers at bay long enough to secure the win.
UC’s final fall exhibition game will be next Saturday, Oct. 17 vs. Xavier. The Bearcats and Musketeers will face off at UC Baseball Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
In addition, Cincinnati will hold its annual Red vs. Black World Series beginning next week. Game one will be Thursday, Oct. 15, game two is set for Tuesday, Oct. 20, and the final game will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22. These games will be free to attend and open to the public. Game times will be announced this week.
