JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University of Cincinnati’s shot at a series sweep was spoiled by Jacksonville State on Sunday, with the Gamecocks prevailing 1-0 at Jim Case Stadium.
The winning run came in the second inning on a solo home run by Jax State’s Grayson Ashe. Both teams had plenty of opportunities on offense, as they combined to leave 21 runners on base, but the Gamecocks were the only team able to push a run across.
Redshirt senior Adam Brouwer earned the start, his first appearance as a Bearcat. Freshmen Chad Brown and Connor Blue then followed out of the bullpen and both put together strong outings. Brown struck out five in three scoreless innings while Blue K’d three in two innings of work.
Sophomore Quinton Coats and freshman Jackson Reardon accounted for UC’s hits on Sunday. Junior Jack Natili did not record an official at-bat as he walked three times and was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning. Natili was walked five times and plunked twice this weekend.
Next up for UC is a Tuesday night contest at No. 9 Auburn. The game is set to start at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
