- Was a first team All-MVC choice his junior and senior seasons, during which he was UC's leading rebounder both years and leading scorer as a senior.
- Earned tournament MVP honors in 1962 after leading the Bearcats to their second NCAA crown, highlighted by a career-best 36-point outburst in the semifinal win over UCLA.
- Tallied 1,391 career points and is one of only three Bearcats to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds (1,088).
- Was a second team All-American in 1961 (Converse).
- Earned first team All-American honors in 1962 (USBWA, Helms Foundation), earned second team honors (NABC), and was a third team pick (AP, UPI).
- Was the Helms Foundation choice as national player of the year in 1962.
- Taken in the first round of the 1962 NBA draft by the New York Knicks with the No. 2 pick.
- Played in the NBA for three seasons with New York and Baltimore.
