Tony Yates was known for his tenacious defense. He won UC’s Best Defensive Player Award three times. One of his teammates Fritz Meyer says he’ll never forget what Yates told him about defensive effort. pic.twitter.com/TuHvHlo8Ld

RIP Coach Yates! Thank you so much for the opportunity to be a UC Bearcat! You played a phenomenal role in making me the man, husband, and father that I am today by and preparing me for life after basketball. Forever grateful! #coachyates @GoBearcatsMBB pic.twitter.com/Z2t0POAoDg

Tony Yates of @GOBearcatsMBB was an essential member of the 1961-62 Cincinnati squad that started four African Americans in @marchmadness title game. (And won). That team’s significance is often lost to history. But Tony and his teammates mattered. #RIP https://t.co/IwqOeTkcOX

RIP to one of the greatest defenders in Bearcats history. Tough, long armed and cerebral ... good Hooper. But even a better man... he created a foundation to teach inner city youth the benefits of golf. 🙏🏽🏌🏾‍♂‍🏀 I love you coach and you will be missed! #coachyates
