- Sid Gillman was the architect of what is considered the greatest era of UC football.
- His teams compiled a 50-13-1 record in six seasons, won three Mid-American Conference championships and played in a pair of bowl games.
- Originator of the passing game now considered the West Coast Offense, Gillman began developing that attack while at UC, earning national aerial game rankings.
- Left UC to become head coach of the Los Angeles Rams and launch a pro coaching career.
