He started his coaching career as a football sports performance intern at UC and also interned at the University of Florida.
Ortiz played running back from 2014-17 at West Liberty and was only the sixth back and ninth player ever to rush for 1,000 or more yards in a season. He was named First-Team All-MEC, Second-Team All-Region and earned a spot on Don Hansen Football Gazette’s 2017 NCAA Division II All-Super Region One Team. Ortiz closed out his career with 2,586 career yards on the ground, sitting fifth on WLU’s career charts.
