Jake Luhn joined Cincinnati basketball as the assistant to the head coach/recruiting coordinator in May 2019.
Luhn (pronunciation rhymes with fun) had worked alongside new UC head coach John Brannen at Northern Kentucky as director of basketball operations during the 2018-19 campaign.
With Luhn on staff last season, the Norse compiled a 26-9 overall mark while claiming the Horizon League regular-season championship and appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons.
Luhn previously served on the coaching staff at Longwood for five seasons (2014-18) under Jayson Gee, who now serves as an assistant coach with the Bearcats. At Longwood, Luhn was an assistant coach his first two season before being elevated to associate head coach for the final three campaigns. He was involved in recruiting, scouting, player development and scheduling. He primarily coached wing players.
Prior to his time at Longwood, Luhn worked four seasons (2004-07) at St. Bonaventure for Anthony Solomon, currently the associate head coach at Dayton. That coaching staff also included Brannen and Gee. Luhn spent three seasons as the director of operations with the Bonnies before being elevated to assistant coach for the 2006-07 campaign.
After four years at St. Bonaventure, Luhn stepped away from basketball after the sudden passing of his father, John Luhn. He left St. Bonaventure to return home to Melbourne, Fla., to run the family business as CEO of LifeStyle Homes Builders, Inc. While there, he also served as assistant coach at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy under lifelong friend Steve Henderson.
Gee brought Luhn back to the college level at Longwood in 2013.
Luhn was a three-year lettermen and two-year team captain at the University of Massachusetts Boston (1999-2002) following a year at New England College (1998-99). He was a two-time UMass Boston Student-Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior and served as a graduate assistant coach at the school during 2002-03.
Luhn graduated from UMass Boston in 2002 with a degree in exercise science and physical education. He earned a master’s in business administration from UMass Amherst in 2004.
Luhn attended Melbourne Central Catholic in Florida where he played for Ron Johnson (a four-time high school state champion head coach) and Dagan Nelson (current head coach at New York University).
Jake and his wife, Jodi, have two sons, JJ and John, and a daughter, Julia.
